Collaboration Between SVKO‑Mayamba‑Support & Geven voor Gambia
Renovation of the Clinic in Kitty Village
SVKO‑Mayamba‑Support and Geven for Gambia have enjoyed a warm friendship for many years and work together whenever the opportunity arises. One of the recent joint efforts is the renovation of the clinic in Kitty Village.
The clinic is located in Kitty Village, in the Kombo South region near Brikama. The “family clinic” first opened in 2021 in a rented house, providing essential healthcare to the local community. Unfortunately, in 2023 the clinic was forced to close after a fire destroyed the building. Medical services were temporarily moved to the health post in Faraba Kairaba, but this location also had to close due to a change in its designated use.
Residents of Kitty Village expressed a strong desire to bring the clinic back to their own community. Thanks to the positive experiences in the village and the close connection with its residents, both organizations committed themselves to restoring the clinic in its original location.
The first steps have already been taken. The roof has been replaced, and with some initial adjustments, the clinic is once again able to receive its first patients. At the same time, plans are being explored for a more extensive renovation to ensure long‑term, sustainable healthcare for the village.
Geven for Gambia continues to work on this project every week, and SVKO‑Mayamba‑Support follows the progress with great involvement. Together, we are striving to rebuild a safe, accessible and future‑proof clinic for the people of Kitty Village.
