Mayamba Village: building a stronger community

Mayamba Village is located on the North Bank, about 10 km inland after crossing by ferry from Banjul to Essau. Since 2017, the village has been visited annually by SVKO–Mayamba Support, providing assistance to families, supplying materials to the local football academy, and more. SVKO–Mayamba Support aims to help the community by improving essential facilities.

Since 2023, the SVKO – Mayamba Support Foundation has been working together with local community representatives (the Village Development Committee) on the development of the Mayamba Health, Community, and Sports Center. Throughout this collaboration, the VDC has identified and articulated the needs of the community, which formed the basis for the project description of the Mayamba Health, Community, and Sports Center.

A key pillar of the project is the completion of the health center. In addition, the plan includes the construction of a community center, the revision of the existing borehole, and improved facilities for the football academy — all part of our ambitious vision for Mayamba.

To formalize this collaboration, the SVKO – Mayamba Support Foundation and the VDC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Phase 1 will focus on completing the health center and upgrading the existing borehole installation — an important first step in realizing this ambitious plan.

Agriculture

Binnen het project bestaat de ambitie om agriculture een meer prominente plaats te geven.

Het begeleiden en opleiden binnen het verbouwen van groenten en fruit biedt gezinnen de mogelijkheid in hun eerste levensbehoefte te voorzien.

Ondersteuning vanuit de stichting bestaat voornamelijk uit de watervoorziening.

De community garden vormt een belangrijke factor in de realisatie.
